Monzo: How Money Makes us Feel

In 2023 we looked at the prevailing attitudes to banking and financial management, and Monzo’s status within the sector.

Identifying that to many “managing your finances is a chore, the job you’re not paid for” and that “it’s more complex than it should be, rarely feeling built with the customer in mind”, Monzo provided the antidote, a better place to be.

The “Money Never Felt like Monzo” campaign that followed was the brand’s biggest in five years. AJ Coyne, Monzo’s VP of marketing: “Across the country, money evokes a variety of feelings, usually stress, anxiety, avoidance, however our customers tell us that on Monzo money feels different, so much so that they’re seven times more likely to use the word ‘love’ when describing us than any other bank.” Nils Leonard of Uncommon Studio added, “Everyone talks about money, but we never talk about how money makes us feel. Monzo are helping to renegotiate our relationship with money, and as a result our lives and dreams. Money feels better with Monzo.”
