10,000 Black Internship Programme: An intern’s experience at The Nursery

At The Nursery, we're not just another company – we're an employee-owned, B Corp-certified organization that places ethics, equality, and fairness at the core of our decision-making process. Recently, we bid farewell to our summer intern, Jeff Hagan, who spent ten weeks with us through the 10,000 Black Interns program during his university break. Here's Jeff's take on his journey with us:

“My ten weeks at the Nursery was an invaluable experience. I am very grateful for everyone at the team for making me feel welcome in my first proper time in the working world. I came into the internship with little to no knowledge of market research but thanks to the guidance and patience of everybody I worked with I left with a very solid understanding as well as a liking for the field.

Working with both the qualitative and quantitative team I could see the difference in how they conduct their research and the varying skills each person must apply depending on the field they work on. Furthermore, witnessing the team culture present in the office was a pleasant surprise and shows how well run of a company the Nursery is.”

This marks The Nursery's inaugural year partnering with 10,000 Black Interns, a charity founded in 2020 to combat the underrepresentation of Black talent in Investment Management. The organisation now collaborates with over 35 workstreams, offering valuable insights into various industries through paid internships, training, and mentoring.

Melanie Bigoni, Managing Director, emphasizes The Nursery's commitment to people-centric values, stating, "We signed up to the 10,000 Black Intern Programme in order to help foster diversity and equity of opportunity at The Nursery. We are grateful to Jeff for his hard work and dedication whilst with us and wish him every success in his final year at University."

Here's to Jeff's promising future and we wish him all the best!
